Michael's Becoming an Independent Learner

Michael just finished writing a sentence dictated to him by his Langsford Instructor. He's now checking it over for any possible errors he may have made with his spelling. This is a very important part of the work done at Langsford. Our goal is to help all of our students learn to become self-correcting and independent with their skills.

Mallory has Gone Fishin'

This is Mallory and she's playing a game of 'Go Fish' with her instructor as a way to review her sounds. Students love playing games and many instructors have come up with great ideas to help kids learn while at the same time having fun. Sharing such ideas is part of what we do at our bi-monthly staff meetings too.

More Visitors From Schools

In a previous post, we talked about how visiting Langsford is one of the best ways to learn more about us and what we do.

Last week, we had a visit from a group of 3 teachers from a local Catholic school. Our Director Stephen met with them to talk in some depth about Langsford and then they had the opportunity to sit in and observe some actual sessions of clients attending this summer.

One of the teachers had this to say about the experience:

More Langsford Lobby Fun

This is Katie, another sister of one of our clients who enjoys playing in our lobby with the blocks. This summer she's also come in with her swim suit on, ready for a day in the pool. As I've seen quite a few swim-suit clad families picking up their kids this summer I've been thinking Langsford should figure out a way to have our summer sessions at the pool too!

What Can You Do In Five Minutes?

I took a photo of these energetic boys while at the Middletown office a few weeks back. Langsford's sessions are 55 minutes long and the students get a 5 minute break, so sometimes we all like to go outside and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine.

And if you're wondering why the fellow on the left, Will, has that look on his face, well, gee, you would probably look like that too if you had to hold up 3 other boys. (By the way, those other boys from left to right are Kasey, Austin and Scott.)

Birthdays are Special

Colin did the bulk of his work last summer and came back this summer for a 2 week refresher. He picked a good time because on his last day, we also celebrated his birthday with a song and a few balloons.

We love birthdays around here. As a matter of fact, some of the Langsford staff, especially two of our Learning Coordinators Rhonda and Leslie, have been known to celebrate their birthdays every day for a week. And last I heard, since they were both born in the same month, they were conspiring to make the celebrations last for the entire month. That's a lot of birthday cake, but we can handle it!
